Hughley’s appointment was announced during a press conference held in Alabama on Monday.

In March this year, the American threatened to leave his role with the D’Tigress over broken promises and unpaid bonuses. Hughley said he would only continue on the job if his outstanding allowances are paid and his contract reviewed.

At the time, a top official declined to comment about the issues raised by Hughley in a report by the BBC but admitted plans were underway to put an end to the leadership impasse at the NBBF.

According to a press statement released on Monday by his new team, Hughley said: “It is an honor to be named head coach of the Alabama A&M men’s basketball program.”

“I would like to thank Dr. Daniel Wims, Bryan Hicks, and the entire search committee for the faith they have placed in me to lead this program and develop young men both athletically and academically. I am excited to get to work with our young men and immerse myself as part of the Bulldog Family.”

The American is yet to publicly state if he is still under the employ of the Nigeria Basketball Federation. Neither has the NBBF made any announcement on what this appointment means for Hughley and the association.

Hughley has previously coached the Golden State Warriors, served as a scout for the Sacramento Kings, and coached the Chinese Taipei Men’s and Women’s teams (2015-2016).He has also served as an Auburn women’s basketball assistant (2018-2019).
