Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has announced that he will not run for any political office in the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was made on Wednesday in Kaduna while he received defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
El-Rufai stated that his return to political involvement is not motivated by personal ambition but by a commitment to promoting credible leadership across all tiers of government.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) revealed that he had originally planned to exit partisan politics after leaving office in 2023. However, he explained that recent national events prompted him to re-engage, with a renewed focus on mentoring youths, women, and reform-oriented individuals to take active roles in governance.
“I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not seeking any position,” he emphasized.
“After my tenure as governor, I intended to rest. But given how things are unfolding, I believe we must play our part to ensure better leadership. That is why we are back in politics.”
El-Rufai also encouraged young people in Kaduna and throughout Nigeria to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, underscoring the importance of their involvement in shaping the nation’s political future.
