The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) will hold its 2025 Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Port Harcourt on October 29, a move expected to set the agenda for the future of women’s football in the country.

The decision was confirmed by the NWFL’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Modupe Shabi, who stated that the assembly will bring together chairmen, general managers of Premiership and Championship clubs, and other key stakeholders.
Delegates are scheduled to arrive in the oil-rich capital on Tuesday, October 28, ahead of the main congress the following day.
The AGA, which serves as the league’s highest decision-making body, is poised to make critical announcements for the upcoming season. Top on the agenda are the official kickoff date for the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership and the closely watched fixtures draw that will determine the season’s matchups.
In a statement, Ms. Shabi expressed optimism about the gathering, noting that the assembly “will offer an opportunity for fruitful deliberations as we collectively advance the growth and development of women’s football in Nigeria.”
The event comes on the heels of a concluded 2024/2025 season which saw Bayelsa Queens clinch a record sixth Premiership title after winning the Super Six tournament in Ikenne.
The new season will also feature a significant expansion of the top-flight league, which grows to 20 teams. The newly promoted sides to the NWFL Premiership are Sunshine Queens (Ondo), Castmog Ladies (Ogun), Ahudiyannem Queens (Abia), and Imo Striker Queens (Imo).
Meanwhile, the NWFL Championship will welcome new contenders, including returnees Dreamstar Ladies, and debutants Rangers Women, Rosaria Victrix, and Solo Wonders, all securing their places for the 2026 season.
Football analysts suggest that the Port Harcourt assembly will be crucial in addressing the logistical and competitive implications of the expanded league, ensuring the continued growth of the women’s game.
