Miss Akinsola brings over 10 years of experience in communications and sports management to the role, having previously worked with Warner Bros Discovery (Eurosport) as a production/commentary coordinator, with sportsgazette.uk as a sports writer, editor and digital media manager, and with ACLSports.com as a podcast host and writer. She also worked with Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State as a sportscaster, writer and producer.

Akinsola, who holds a master’s degree in international sports journalism from St. Mary’s University, London has managed production communications for Eurosport during a number of major sporting events, including the Olympic Games, tennis grand slams, the English Premier League and major European club competitions.

Super Falcons of Nigeria

She joins an ambitious squad that is targeting a record-extending 10th continental title, when the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations finals commences in Morocco on 5th July. She believes her passion for the game and ceaseless quest for excellence matches those of the Super Falcons, and is committed to promoting the Nigeria senior women team’s story and connecting with stakeholders and supporters globally.

Speaking on the news, the Ceo of NSM, Adewale Ajayi wrote the following

*Good morning NSM*.

*MARY AKINSOLA AS MEDIA OFFICER HAS ADDED TO MY JOY*

This is another reason why I am already leading the campaign for Ibrahim Gusau for second term. This man dazzles me with great passion for the game and a greater passion for excellence.

Now you don’t need me to tell you how excited I am over this appointment. Mary Akinsola means so much to me. I added her to this platform in 2018 and since then, I have nurtured and pampered her like a daughter.

For the first time in many years, we have identified a media officer that will add a touch of class to the job. She paid from her pocket to study in the United kingdom and returned with a Masters certificate in international sports journalism.

Immediately I heard of her appointment six days ago, I called the NFF president and my sweet mother, Aisha Falode to congratulate them for identifying a star. The truth is, this wasn’t my recommendation, her CV gave her the job on merit. I have spoken with her twice and have assured her that I will support her to the last day.

This is not just her project, it is my project. So just know, that if you make this job difficult for her, you are looking for my trouble.

Please let’s support Mary. She is one of us. As the NFF president told me, we wanted someone from the South West. We have media officers from the north and the south east so I said this must go to the South West. Coupled with the fact that she has an exceptional CV, I just can’t let go. I have never met her, I don’t even know her but I have seen her credentials, spoke with a few persons and now that Wale Ajayi has endorsed her, I am convinced that we have taken the right decision he concluded.

Mary Akinsola, please go to Morocco and do us proud. NSM is happy that yet another Ambassador of this great platform has been given the opportunity to serve. We will support you and the team all the way. All we want is the trophy. The God you serve will see you through this big assignment and you too will count your blessings afterwards.

Congratulations Mary Cheers
