The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has issued a nationwide alert, warning the public and security agencies to cease all dealings with two individuals it has suspended and disclaimed for allegedly engaging in illegal activities while impersonating officials of its Lagos State Chapter.
In a sternly worded press statement, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SWAN formally disowned Ms. Olatutu Oladunni and Mr. Bello Omotunde, declaring that they are neither officials nor recognised members of the association.
The national body confirmed it has suspended the duo with immediate effect for acts of “gross misconduct,” invoking its disciplinary powers under the SWAN Statute. The suspension strips them of any authority to act on behalf of the association.
The alert was triggered by reports that the suspended individuals were organizing “illegal and self-styled activities,” including attempts to conduct a sham election for the Lagos State Chapter.
“The National Secretariat reiterates that such actions are null, void, and of no effect whatsoever,” the statement declared, leaving no room for ambiguity regarding the legitimacy of the duo’s claims.
The association issued a direct advisory to all sectors, stating, “Security agencies, corporate partners, media organisations, and the general public are strongly advised to desist from recognising or engaging with Ms. Olatutu Oladunni and Mr. Bello Omotunde in any matter relating to SWAN.”
For the avoidance of doubt, SWAN’s National Executive Committee affirmed that the only legitimate leadership in Lagos remains under the coordination of the Acting Chairman, Mr. Aaron Akerejola, pending the outcome of an ongoing independent investigation.
The statement concluded with a warning that the professional body would cooperate with security authorities to uphold order and statutory discipline within its ranks, signaling a readiness to pursue legal avenues against the impersonators.
