In a highly anticipated move off the pitch, Super Falcons forward Uchenna Grace Kanu is set to launch her debut memoir, “Football, My Escape,” on December 2, 2025. The event will be held at the MADHouse, UNILAG Lagoon Front, Lagos, marking a significant moment for the football icon and her fans.

The book promises to be a raw and heartfelt account of Kanu’s life, tracing her journey from a young girl playing football in the streets of Aba to becoming a record-breaking collegiate athlete in the United States and, ultimately, a global star in women’s football. The memoir is described as a story of “resilience, faith, and triumph,” detailing her childhood struggles, personal battles, and the transformative power of the beautiful game.

“This book is my truth, my journey, my struggles and my gratitude,” Kanu said in a statement. “I want young girls and boys across Africa to know that dreams are valid, even when the world feels loud. Football saved me, and gave me an escape route, as well as opened doors I never imagined.”
The Lagos launch event is open to the public and free to attend. It will feature an interactive reading session with the author, fireside chats on women’s football and youth empowerment, a Q&A with fans, book signings, photo opportunities, and special performances.

Following the book launch, Kanu will continue her philanthropic work through the Uchenna Kanu Foundation with its annual End-of-Year Event on December 13, 2025, in Umuahia, Abia State. The foundation’s event will focus on youth empowerment, featuring a football scholarship program, donations of sports kits and educational materials, and mentorship sessions led by Kanu herself.
The foundation continues to champion education and equal opportunities for girls in sports, reflecting Kanu’s deep commitment to giving back to her community.
