NFF chieftain and former chairman of the technical Committee of the NFF, Chris Green had this to say on the draw between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in an AFCON 2021 qualifier earlier today. Barrister Chris Green wrote this on NSM (Nigerian Sports foremost whatsapp group).
Here it is
“Common sense will tell you that we lost our 4 goal lead as a result of bad game management. This has always been the bane of Rohr. It happened at the world cup and Afcon.
Don’t blame the players. I even think the players are more technically superior than our coach( pls no insult or malice intended). The field too didn’t help the team. I thought we would have stuck with Asaba where the players have fair knowledge of the field than trying out on a virgin field.
Weather too didn’t help because all of our players were drawn from the temperate zone to play in the tropics.
They gassed out too quickly. They became complacent after the 4th goal and capitulated. Once again, a big lesson to us. I hope we will learn. We need someone that can read the game and also provide statistics of our players atleast every 10mins.
We have enough in the boys to win in Sierra Leone even without a coach. We didn’t have leaders today. I still believe in our players and their abilities to turn the tide.
I expect us to win convincingly in Sierra Leone.” He concluded.
The Super Eagles had earlier broken the heart of Nigerian football fans Friday night as they blew away a four goal lead over Sierra Leone and merely scrapped to a 4-4 draw in their Match day 3 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
