Crisis Looms as Players Question Coach Yema Over SWAN Selected Team List
Reactions have trailed the list of SWAN Selected team which was released by coach Yema Daniel on Monday. The list is replete with regular faces.
Like every team list, coach Yema’s list met criticism because of questionable inclusion of some players in the squad, some of whom are either not fit or have not kicked a ball in many months
Olayinka Owolewa who has a perfect record with the team was placed on the standby list while bulky striker, Kingsley Oyero made the squad ahead of Owolewa and Enitan Obadina. Remarkably, Owolewa scored on his debut for the team.
Owelewa could not hide his frustration as he called his coach out. The obviously annoyed Owolewa said: “Dear Coach Yema Star Coach, I made a cameo appearance for the SWAN Selected side in Kaduna some months ago and scored on my debut. Releasing this list, you placed a very fit me on standby, can you please explain to the house the difference between you and Gernot Rohr who left out an inform Onuachu and called a very clubless Ahmed Musa. Please explain to the house.”
Ibitoye Shittu, Owolewa’s colleague at Kwara SWAN, described the list as a “padi padi list” and equated coach Yema’s decision with the contentious decision made by Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to keep Genk striker, Onuachu on the standby list even after scoring 27 goals in all competitions for his club
“Putting Owolewa on standby is like Rohr putting Onuachu on standby. Owolewa is the best striker in Kwara SWAN. This list na yeye padi padi list made under mango trees”.
Ibitoye Shittu’s comment did not sit well with Tobi Adepoju who quickly suggested that the striker is not popular and he went as far as calling Kwara SWAN members “broke people”.
“How many Kwara people dey cover Super Eagles games? They are broke people.”
Pacy striker, Enitan Obadina could not hide his displeasure that a bulky Kingsley Oyero was selected ahead of him and he suggested that coach Yema’s palms were greased. The pacy striker asked: “Koyero ke, did he bribe you @Yema Star Coach ?”
On his part, Edward Johnny demanded the immediate sack of the coach, despite his success with the team. He posted: “Sack @Yema Star Coach now. He didn’t include me in his squad.”
Few minutes after his fellow forgotten players gave vent to their frustrations, Miyen Akiri suggested that the list was highly influenced by the “powers above”
The player who is popularly called ‘Aja owa ni o’ questioned coach Yema’s decisions. Miyen asked: “Yema can you honestly come out and tell us how you selected this players and what was the yardstick?
See we will list names you left out from Miyen Akiri to Johnny Edward. we will bring you a list”
Coach Yema has yet to respond to these frontal questions from his players as at the time of writing this report
