It’s another Sunday offering exciting football actions across leagues in Europe

Arsenal vs Fulham

Aleksandar Mitrovic gave his teammates a rousing pep talk in the wake of last week’s desolating setback against Wolves, and Fulham need to show it has sunk in. Defeat at the Emirates would be their fifth in a row and demand a miraculous run in order to escape relegation. Wins are required but Arsenal are of a similar mind and refuse to give up on making the European places: it is the start of a relatively kind run-in for Mikel Arteta’s side and, while he may rotate, the manager will not allow his players to focus solely on Europa League salvation.

Manchester United vs Burnley

Manchester United can cut the gap to Manchester City to eight points by beating Burnley but even then only six games will remain so Ole Gunnar Solskjær is right to rate as unrealistic the chance of a late surge for the title. But finishing second is an improvement on last year so there is an incentive against a Burnley team who will aim to be problematic for the home side.

In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund will look to put aside a disappointing midweek result in the Champions League when they face Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Edin Terzic’s side took the lead against Manchester City but the quality of the Premier League outfit saw them turn the game around and win the tie.

Securing Champions League football for next season will be a priority for Borussia Dortmund, but they are running out of time.

Dortmund are seven points behind Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga table and will look to close the gap when they face a struggling Werder Bremen side.

Relegation is still looming for Werder Bremen, as they are just four points clear of the relegation playoff spot.

The head-to-head record between the two teams is pretty competitive as Borussia Dortmund have won 45 games while Werder Bremen have won 41. A total of 19 games have ended as draws in this fixture.

Dortmund will be slight favorites heading into this game, though, as their recent results in the league have been better than Werder’s, who have lost four in a row.

Getafe vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid make a short trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday evening to take on Getafe in what is a must-win game for Los Blancos.

Zinedine Zidane’s men are only one point behind fierce rivals Atletico Madrid and have their eyes fixated on a potential 35th La Liga title.

Real Madrid find themselves in incredible form, having just secured qualification to the Champions League semi-finals. They also emerged victorious in the recent El Clasico against Barcelona.

Home side Getafe are winless in five straight games but can prove to be tricky customers on their day. They held Atletico Madrid to a goalless draw in March, and Real Madrid know better than to take their next opponents lightly.

Getafe have only beaten their famous city rivals on three occasions before. Real Madrid have picked up the win 21 times, while two matches have ended in draws.

Getafe’s last victory against Los Merengues came way back in 2012. Since then, Real Madrid have beaten the Azulones every single time, bar one.

Nantes vs Lyon

Lyon lock horns with Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire – Louis Fonteneau on Sunday. Lyon have been impressive this season and hold the upper hand going into this game.

Nantes are in 19th place in the Ligue 1 standings at the moment and face an intense relegation battle in the coming weeks. The Canaries suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Rennes in their previous game and cannot afford to drop points in this match.

Lyon have also slipped up in recent weeks and find themselves five points behind league-leaders Lille in the league table. Les Gones eased past Angers by a 3-0 margin last weekend and will want a similar result from this game.

Lyon have an excellent record against Nantes and have won 12 games out of a total of 20 matches played between the two teams. Nantes have managed only four victories against Lyon and will need to take it up a notch in this match.

The previous meeting between the two teams took place last year and ended in a comfortable 3-0 victory for Lyon. Lucas Paqueta was excellent on the day and will play a pivotal role in this match.

PSG vs St- Etienne

After beating Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain now focus their attention on St-Etienne in Ligue 1 action.

PSG are currently second in the table, three points behind league leaders Lille, while St-Etienne are 13th with just six more matches left to play.

Mauricio Pochettino will be worried about his side’s home form as they have not won at the Parc des Princes since overcoming Nice back in mid-February. In recent weeks, PSG have lost to Monaco, Nantes, Lille and Bayern Munich while drawing with Barcelona at home.

Meanwhile, St-Etienne have won their last two games on the road against Angers and Nice respectively.

Of the 38 games played between both teams, Paris Saint-Germain have won on 23 occasions and lost five. The last time they met, it was Pochettino’s first game in charge at PSG.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions were held to a 1-1 draw away from home. Romain Hamouma took the lead for Claude Puel’s side before Moise Kean equalized.

Both clubs managed the same number of shots (11) but St-Etienne (5) had one more shot on target than their opponents (4).

To regain their top spot in the league, Pochettino will have to rally his team to put up a strong display against St-Etienne to earn three points.

Bordeaux Vs Monaco

The Ligue 1 is back in action with another round of matches this weekend as Monaco take on Bordeaux at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux on Sunday. Monaco have been excellent in recent weeks and are the favourites to win this match.

Bordeaux are in 15th place in the Ligue 1 standings at the moment and have endured a difficult campaign so far. The home side suffered a stunning 4-1 defeat last weekend and has plenty of work to do ahead of this game.

Monaco, on the other hand, have exceeded expectations this season and currently find themselves in third place in the league table. Les Monegasques have an outside chance of winning the Ligue 1 title and cannot afford to drop points in this match.

Bordeaux have a surprisingly excellent record against Monaco and have won11 games out of a total of 25 matches played between the two teams. Monaco have managed only eight victories against Bordeaux and need to step up this weekend.

The previous meeting between these two French sides took place in November last year and ended in a 4-0 victory for Monaco. Bordeaux struggled to cope with their opponents on the day and will need to do a better job this weekend.
